leawood invisalign

When you have an uneven smile, you may assume a cosmetic solution is not possible. But instead of traditional metal braces, we could offer a clear and practically invisible solution with Invisalign®. In today’s blog, your Leawood, KS, dentist talks about correcting your smile with Invisalign® aligner trays.

The Impact of Uneven Teeth

Why should you consider orthodontic treatment for your uneven smile? Dental misalignment can mean trouble fully brushing and flossing your teeth, which leaves your smile vulnerable to issues like tooth decay and gum disease. Uneven teeth also mean bite imbalance, which can strain the smile and increase the risk of issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Misalignment could also be a source of embarrassment, and impact how you feel in social situations. But with Invisalign®, we can provide a nearly invisible solution to misalignment, one that is comfortable and requires less time to see optimal results.

Creating Your Invisalign® Aligners

When we examine your smile and decide that this is the right choice for you, then we will need to create your custom aligner trays. We use these instead of metal brackets and wires to correct your smile. To begin, our team will take detailed digital images of your bite from multiple angles. We will send these images and measurements to experts who will use them to design and fabricate your custom aligners in a lab setting. You will then receive a series of these aligner trays so you can start your treatment journey.

Clear Smile Correction

With the Invisalign® system, each day you will wear a set of aligners for about 20 to 23 hours on average. You do so for about two weeks, and then begin wearing the next set in the series for a similar amount of time. This continues with each set until you see optimal results, which could take as little as one year. Along with being almost invisible and requires less time for treatment, these are also removable. You can take out your orthodontics before you eat, so you don’t have to change your diet or avoid certain foods. This removable nature also means you can take them out before you brush and floss, so you have an easier time cleaning your teeth and protecting your smile than you would with braces. Finally, you can take them out for special occasions, like job interviews or first dates.
