If you have lost a tooth, or even if you have a gap of two to three teeth in a row, then we can help. With a dental bridge, we can replace what has been lost and ensure lifelike results. In today’s blog, your team at Dreem Dentistry talks about placing bridges in Leawood, KS.
The Causes and Risks of Adult Tooth Loss
How do adults lose their teeth? For teens and adults, tooth loss could occur due to a severe injury or accident, or even as a result of an untreated cavity, which could become an infection. The most common cause of tooth loss in adulthood is actually the periodontitis state of gum disease.
When you lose a tooth, this gap could leave you feeling embarrassed about your appearance. You could also have teeth on each side of the gap drift, creating misalignment that further alters your appearance and oral health in negative ways. If you have a larger gap of two to three teeth in a row, this could impact how you eat and even your speech! But we can replace your missing tooth (or teeth) with a dental bridge.
Receiving a Dental Bridge
The prosthetic will bridge the gap in your smile, consisting of a new tooth or up to three teeth in a row, with crowns connected to each end. We will start the process by numbing the abutment teeth, which sits on each side of the gap. The outer structure is then gently removed from these teeth, and we will take impressions and images of the teeth to design and craft your new prosthetic. The final product will be made from ceramic, a very strong material that can handle daily bite forces with ease. The same material can also be color-matched to blend with your smile.
Keeping Your New Dental Prosthetic in Place
When your new teeth are ready, we will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments to your new teeth to ensure an optimal fit. We then attach the crown portions to the abutment teeth to secure your new teeth in place for years to come. We could also discuss supporting them with dental implants, which prevents abutment teeth from requiring structure removal, as the implants will support the crown portions. These tend to last much longer. To keep your bridge long-lasting and bright be sure you brush and floss it daily, and clean the space between the tip of the gums and the bottom of your new prosthetic!
