If you have crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth, this could lead to issues with the health, function, and even the appearance of your smile. But we can help correct your uneven smile, and do so with a cosmetic approach. In today’s blog, your Leawood, KS, dentist talks about the Invisalign® process.

The Factors Behind Dental Misalignment

Why do we end up with uneven teeth? For some, this could start early with thumb sucking and tongue thrusting altering the position of the teeth. For children, losing baby teeth early to poor oral health could impact how permanent teeth erupt, leading to poor alignment. In the teen and adult years, injury or tooth loss could alter the position of the teeth, as could the arrival of the wisdom teeth. With poor alignment comes a greater risk of tooth decay and periodontal disease. The pressure on the bite could also lead to the onset of issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Don’t let the health and appearance of your smile suffer, talk to our team about orthodontics treatment with a cosmetic approach using Invisalign®!

The Invisalign® Aligners

How does the Invisalign® approach correct your uneven smile? Our team will take detailed digital images and measurements of your smile, which we use to create a 3D computer model of your bite. Experts in a lab setting will then use these to design and craft a series of custom and clear aligners from a BPA-free acrylic material. You will receive multiple sets of these aligners. Each one is worn for about two weeks and 20 to 23 hours per day. Every two weeks you then switch to the next set in the series as your smile is gradually and gently corrected, a process that could take as little as one year for some patients.

Correcting Your Smile

As your smile is corrected, you can enjoy other benefits of these systems. For example, you can remove them before you eat. Unlike braces, you don’t need to alter your diet or avoid certain items, nothing is getting caught in your orthodontics. This removability also means you have a much simpler time brushing and flossing your teeth, which protects your smile from complications during treatment. They are easy to care for and clean, and can travel with you too. Being nearly invisible means no changes to your professional appearance during the treatment process.
