leawood teeth whitening

Do you want a bright smile? Then we can help by removing your unsightly teeth stains! We have two different options for removing discoloration, both of which could brighten your smile by several shades. In today’s blog, your Leawood, KS, dentist talks about how we brighten smiles with professional in-office and at-home teeth whitening!

A Look at Teeth Stains

How do teeth stains from on our teeth? These can happen for a number of different reasons. For example, you could develop teeth stains when you use tobacco products. If you fail to brush and floss or undergo a cleaning every few months, then plaque and tartar buildup could make stains more visible. Drinks with dark pigments could be a factor too, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and soda. Even a diet high in sugar could be a factor, as this also leads to plaque buildup. As part of your cosmetic treatment, we will assess the cause of your teeth stains, so we can recommend tips for keeping your smile brighter for longer periods following treatment.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If you need results in a short time period, then you may want to try our in-office teeth whitening treatment. Our team will add a special protective layer to your lips and gums, and then place a powerful bleaching gel onto the surfaces of your teeth. We then activate the bleaching ingredients in your gel with a light, which will begin to break up teeth stains. For some, this could mean a much brighter smile in as little as one to two hours. If you need to make your smile shine before a job interview, a first date, or a special event, then we could help!

Brightening Smiles at Home

If you have more severe discoloration, then our team could help with a take-home teeth whitening kit. You start with an initial office visit so we can take impressions of your bite to create a set of custom plastic trays. Once we do, we will send these home with you. We also provide multiple plastic syringes that contain a powerful bleaching gel.

Once you are at home, you simply add the gel to the trays and wear them for a special amount of time each day, usually between a half hour and an hour. You do so for about two weeks, and your smile could be up to eight shades brighter! If you have severe discoloration, the kind that may not respond well to teeth whitening, we could discuss masking them with bonding, veneers, or a combination of the two.
