How do you feel about the appearance of your smile? If you have concerns or imperfections you want to see addressed, then you may benefit from cosmetic dentistry. In today’s blog, your Leawood, KS, dentist talks about how we approach cosmetic treatment and how we improve smile beauty!
Your Initial Cosmetic Consultation
Do you have concerns with the appearance of your smile? If so, schedule a cosmetic consultation with our team. We will talk to you about your hopes for your smile, and then conduct a detailed examination to assess the cause and severity of these imperfections. From there, we can choose the right treatments to improve smile beauty, and we may combine multiple treatments for a smile makeover. With cosmetic dentistry, we want to help you smile with confidence again and enjoy your best possible smile!
Two Teeth Whitening Selections
One common issue people see us about is teeth whitening. Discoloration can make our teeth appear dull and unsightly, but we can help with cosmetic dentistry. We have two professional teeth whitening treatments available, which offer more dramatic and longer-lasting results than traditional store-bought options. The in-office procedure can brighten smiles in only one hour. We will add a protective covering to your lips and gums, and then apply a powerful bleaching gel to the surfaces of the teeth. We activate the gel with a light, brightening the teeth. This is great if you need results before a big event, job interview, or first date.
We can also brighten your smile from home with a procedure that can target more severe staining. You start with an initial office visit, so our team can take detailed images and measurements of your smile to create a set of plastic trays, custom-fitted for your smile. The trays are then sent home with you, along with multiple plastic syringes of bleaching gel. At home, you add gel to the trays and wear them for a set amount of time, usually 30 to 45 minutes a day, over a period of one to two weeks. This can brighten your smile by up to eight shades, and the trays ensure the results are even across your smile. The trays also ensure saliva doesn’t dilute the strength of the gel! You can then keep the trays and remaining gel for touch-ups down the road.
Invisalign® Aligners
Cosmetic dentistry can also address uneven teeth. Instead of using braces to correct crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, we can use a series of clear aligners that have been custom-made for your smile. These fit comfortably and are clear in appearance, practically invisible! You wear each set for between 20 and 22 hours a day, over a period of about two weeks. You then begin wearing the next set to continue the treatment process. For some, teeth could be straighter in as little as one year. The aligners are easy to use and clean, and can be removed before meals so you don’t have to alter your diet. Being removable also means brushing and flossing is much easier, so you enjoy better oral hygiene too. These can be removed before first dates, job interviews, graduations, and other special events.
Porcelain Veneers
We also have a procedure that can offer a smile makeover for our patients. Porcelain veneers are a crucial part of cosmetic dentistry, as these thin restorations can instantly transform the appearance of your smile. Each veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that we attach to the front of your teeth. Once in place, they can instantly mask permanent teeth stains, reshape malformed teeth, and fill gaps and black triangle spaces between the teeth. We can repair cracked or chipped teeth, lengthen worn down teeth, and even correct the appearance of minor misalignment, so you can enjoy a straighter-looking smile without the need for orthodontics. You brush and floss them as you would natural teeth to keep your veneers bright and to safeguard the teeth we have attached them to.
